GambleAware's research supported a public health approach to preventing and reducing gambling harms. They worked with a range of organisations to commission research which increased knowledge and understanding of gambling harms, and supported work to prevent and reduce them.

People sometimes feel judged or discriminated against because of the stigma around gambling harms. Understanding stigma and how we can tackle it is a vital part of supporting those experiencing gambling harms.

Certain communities can carry a heavier burden of gambling harm. Understanding these communities’ needs means being better able to tailor support services to them.

GambleAware carried out research to find out more about ways to prevent gambling harms. These learnings helped to shape harm prevention campaigns and education and training programmes.

GambleAware's research brought together findings from the National Gambling Support Network, support services, early intervention programmes, and informal types of support such as self-help tools.

This research focused on how the external environment can be made safer to prevent harm. It provided evidence for public policy and helped to inform how the gambling industry is regulated.
