Evaluation of GameChange, GamCare’s Pilot cCBT Programme

Author: GambleAware Published: July 2020

Summary

This report evaluates GamCare's pilot computerised cognitive behavioural therapy (cCBT) programme for problem gambling, called GameChange. It was conducted by GambleAware to assess the early implementation and uptake of the service.

Topics covered

  • uptake and capacity of the cCBT programme in its first four months
  • emerging findings on screening and referrals
  • recommendations for future development

Key findings

Demand for GameChange has been much higher than expected. The programme is providing a new pathway for triage and referral of complex cases. However, staff capacity issues have led to long wait times.

Early feedback suggests the modules are helping increase self-awareness and control for users. More funding and a formal evaluation framework are recommended.
